How to Join

HOW IT WORKS

You provide a service to earn TimeCredits. One hour of service equals one TimeCredit. Everyone’s hour is of equal value. You can spend your TimeCredits for any service in the network. You use the website to contact fellow TimeBankers and keep track of transactions.

HOW TO BECOME A MEMBER OF TIMEBANK SANTA CRUZ

  • Read the Handbook.
  • File an Application. You will need the email addresses of two people whom we can contact as Character References for you. Please note that we do screen applicants and incomplete applications do not make a good first impression.
  • Attend an Orientation.
  • Pay Annual Member Dues.

Annual Dues are $25 to $50 sliding scale and are tax-deductible. The TimeBank is a project of the Santa Cruz Reskilling Expo, a 501©3 nonprofit public charity.

THE ORIENTATION

You’ll meet with a TimeBank coordinator who will help create your Profile, list your Offers and Requests and show you how to use the website. Orientations are held in Capitola and generally last 30 to 60 minutes.

WHAT MAKES A GOOD TIMEBANKER

We serve Santa Cruz County. Any County resident over eighteen who is willing to maintain a high level of trust is invited to join. We look for resourceful folks with practical skills to share.

You’ll need to have time to participate. The minimum commitment is three hours per month.

We encourage members to TimeBank in their neighborhoods. You can specify how far you are willing to travel to provide services.

TIMEBANKERS ARE ASKED TO BOTH GIVE AND RECEIVE

Requesting and receiving services creates opportunities for others and builds relationships of trust. Reciprocity and interdependence are key to successful timebanking.
